Weekly Spelling Words
Our spelling lists will contain words with a common spelling pattern or sound (short a words, ow spellings, etc.) Each list will also include 3-5 sight vocabulary words. These words are generally not spelled phonetically, but are important words that will be used within your child's reading and writing.
Spelling Word Lists
Spelling word lists will be given and need to be signed by a parent. These words will be tested as aligned within our Wonders reading series (approximately every 5-6 days). The day of the spelling test will be written on the weekly homework sheet.
Tips on How to Study:
The best way for children to learn how to spell words, and remember them over the long-term, is to have them practice a few words the first day to ensure mastery. Practice should be done orally and in writing. Each consecutive night you may add on additional words until all the words all learned.
Trying to learn all the words the night before the test is not the best way to help your child become a proficient speller.
